#SupernaturalDay

This show is wicked, and it got everybody under its spell. And we love it.

On the 13th of September of 2005, Supernatural aired on the CW, and it has been 18 years of making history. The fandom base it generated has passed through several generations and still continues to this present day. The road goes on forever.

I was only 10 when in 2005. I just became familiar with it two years later; I used to buy these teenage magazines, and during that year (towards the end of it), it started to have interviews with Jensen and Jared. I collected all the posters, they were cute as hell, I hung them on my bedroom walls…and when I read the interviews…I thought this was a show I could enjoy.

The first tv show I watched was “True Blood” I became insanely hooked on it, and after I finished the seasons that were going in 2009, I decided to download the 4 seasons of Supernatural. The season 5 was almost airing and I was so excited.

I don’t know what happened but…the car stopped being just a car - it became the BABY of my dreams.

In Purgatory 6 - May 2022

I was already a huge rock n’ roll admirer, so when I learned the show had all the classics and beyond, it was another reason to fall in love.

The cast…was perfectly well chosen.

The story? Well...I always had a fascination with horror, the supernatural…angels, and demons. When Lucifer showed in S5, it was the end. I went from being a Dean girl…to a Lucifer girl shameless. I became obsessed with the fallen angel and yes…the cliché Sympathy For The Devil.

It is something powerful to have a comfort character. Might as well do a post about it in the future :)

I watched some episodes until season 10 with my best friend; we would talk immediately after the episode to discuss it. We crushed hard on Dean, we thought he was a puppy, and we didn’t like it when he was struggling or suffering. Jensen Ackles was my first male crush. I remember I had a lot of pictures of both boys saved.

When season 5 finished, I thought it was gonna be the end…and then it surprised us. We wouldn’t imagine it would go on for more than 10 years!

There was supposed to be a small convention with the boys in my hometown - Lisbon, I was already planning to go with a friend that I met through SPN. I don’t remember her name anymore…we lost contact in those years. They canceled the convention, I don’t fully remember what happened. I was screaming in tears. It seemed like a dream, and it was not possible anymore.

At that time I wasn’t fully aware of conventions (I knew they existed), just didn’t know a lot of how it worked. And since I was underage, traveling abroad alone was out of the question.

Supernatural has a different meaning to all of us. But we all can agree on one thing: It is our favorite and comfort show. And everyone created amazing friendships from all around the globe. It unites people. Brings people together. Like music.

I have only created friends through music before. But when I reached the core of this fandom, I found a new family.

So when we celebrate the 18th anniversary of this show, we are not only celebrating a story that Eric Kripke created, we are celebrating a legacy. It is crazy what a television show can do to our lives. I never thought of seeing myself wrapped in this devilish mess. But here I am. 28 years old and I’m proudly and happy in where I stand in this fandom.

Writing this has been a big trip down memory lane.

How it was for you? How did you discover the show?

Happy 18th years old Supernatural!
